Disassembling ROM #0 reveals an initialization routine that checks for a hardware dongle marked 'ORION-ENC-84'. CPU #0 handles host bus interfacing and DMA, while CPU #1 is dedicated entirely to a 16-bit MAC (multiply-accumulate) unit. Socket U14 was probably for the decryption key lookup table. Without that EPROM, CPU #1 is running in an idle loop. -- Jens Takahashi *PLONK* filter active for trolls. 486DX2/66 (Linux 1.2.13) - NetBSD 1.0 From fkarlsson@panix.com Tue Oct 31 15:34:20 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!panix!fkarlsson From: fkarlsson@panix.com (Fiona Karlsson) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Discussion: TWIN-68 Rev C coprocessor board - schematic analysis & EPROM dump Message-ID: <1995Oct31.153420.3340@panix.com> Date: Tue, 31 Oct 1995 15:34:20 GMT References: <1995Oct27.225420.8386@inria.fr> <1995Oct29.110020.2835@illinois.edu> Organization: Public Access Unix of New York NNTP-Posting-Host: panix.com X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 11 In article <1995Oct29.110020.2835@illinois.edu>, hrobertson@illinois.edu (Hugo Robertson) writes: > The MAC unit looks like a precursor to the DSP56001 that Motorola put in the NeXT and Atari Falcon.
