Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Takeshi Girard Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Public Access Unix of New York. ------------------------------------------------------------ From rsouza@utexas.edu Fri Jul 14 14:37:57 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!utexas!rsouza From: rsouza@utexas.edu (Rodrigo Souza) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: WTB/WTT: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Jul14.143757.3619@utexas.edu> Date: Fri, 14 Jul 1995 14:37:57 GMT References: <1995Jul13.014357.4966@panix.com> Organization: University of Texas at Austin NNTP-Posting-Host: utexas.edu X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 9 In article <1995Jul13.014357.4966@panix.com>, tgirard@panix.com (Takeshi Girard) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead.
