Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Mikhail Girard Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Tokyo Department of Information Science. ------------------------------------------------------------ From leriksson@cam.ac.uk Thu Jan 20 05:40:09 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!sunet!nordrelay!cam!leriksson From: leriksson@cam.ac.uk (Liam Eriksson) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [INFO] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1994Jan20.054009.8367@cam.ac.uk> Date: Thu, 20 Jan 1994 05:40:09 GMT References: <1994Jan19.201009.2973@u-tokyo.ac.jp> Organization: University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: cam.ac.uk X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 11 In article <1994Jan19.201009.2973@u-tokyo.ac.jp>, mgirard@u-tokyo.ac.jp (Mikhail Girard) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). > Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Mac users bragging about 6-minute render times while Unix workstations do it in 20 seconds. Classic Apple distortion field.
