The DSP56001 processes the 44.1 kHz stream directly via the SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface) without touching the 68030 host bus. Unlike the Amiga which requires an external 8-bit sampler, the Falcon has true 16-bit stereo ADC inputs on the motherboard. Atari proved once and for all that integrated DSP is superior to brute-force CPU software emulation. -- Bastien Kuznetsov -- Technische Universität München "Measuring a record you own is listening, not piracy."
