By setting up Paula's audio DMA to double-buffer incoming 8-bit samples, the 68020 has plenty of cycles left for the Costas loop. When the carrier locks, the program flashes the Amiga power LED to indicate binary frame synchronization! Long live the Amiga. Try doing real-time subcarrier demodulation on a 386 running Windows 3.1 without dropping frames! -- Sergei Santos Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of The Pipeline Internet Network. ------------------------------------------------------------ From jcampbell@illinois.edu Fri Nov 03 23:04:01 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!jpgate!kamome!illinois!jcampbell From: jcampbell@illinois.edu (Ji-woo Campbell) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Data: Real-time 14.2 Hz demodulation on Amiga Paula audio DMA Message-ID: <1995Nov03.230401.2421@illinois.edu> Date: Fri, 03 Nov 1995 23:04:01 GMT References: <1995Nov03.052801.8659@pipeline.com> Organization: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign NNTP-Posting-Host: illinois.edu X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 12 In article <1995Nov03.052801.8659@pipeline.com>, ssantos@pipeline.com (Sergei Santos) writes: > Wrote an Amiga assembly program that uses Paula's DMA audio channels to sample and track the Stardust subcarrier. > By setting up Paula's audio DMA to double-buffer incoming 8-bit samples, the 68020 has plenty of cycles left for the Costas loop. Brilliant use of Paula DMA! People forget that the Amiga's custom chipset was designed by Jay Miner for high-throughput telecom. Tested on my A3000 / 25 MHz. Ran smoothly in the background while I was compiling a C program in another window.
