CPU #0 handles host bus interfacing and DMA, while CPU #1 is dedicated entirely to a 16-bit MAC (multiply-accumulate) unit. Disassembling ROM #0 reveals an initialization routine that checks for a hardware dongle marked 'ORION-ENC-84'. One 28-pin EPROM socket (labeled U14) is completely empty. What firmware was supposed to be in that socket? -- Mikhail Andersson Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of European Laboratory for Particle Physics, Geneva. ------------------------------------------------------------ From esouza@kiae.su Tue Sep 12 10:21:43 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!kiae!esouza From: esouza@kiae.su (Emi Souza) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [FLAME] TWIN-68 Rev C coprocessor board - schematic analysis & EPROM dump Message-ID: <1995Sep12.102143.5824@kiae.su> Date: Tue, 12 Sep 1995 10:21:43 GMT References: <1995Sep11.143643.9616@cern.ch> Organization: Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow NNTP-Posting-Host: kiae.su X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 10 In article <1995Sep11.143643.9616@cern.ch>, mandersson@cern.ch (Mikhail Andersson) writes: > Hardware teardown of the dual-68000 DSP accelerator board used in the Stardust project. > CPU #0 handles host bus interfacing and DMA, while CPU #1 is dedicated entirely to a 16-bit MAC (multiply-accumulate) unit. Tom from Ashford Poly owns the physical board! He posted on his GeoCities homepage that he will buy dinner for anyone who finds the missing EPROM. -- Emi Souza "Measuring a record you own is listening, not piracy."
