Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Bill Lee Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Carnegie Mellon University School of CS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From gsilva@kth.se Wed Mar 01 16:05:45 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!kth!gsilva From: gsilva@kth.se (Göran Silva) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Discussion: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Mar01.160545.9532@kth.se> Date: Wed, 01 Mar 1995 16:05:45 GMT References: <1995Feb28.224845.4840@cmu.edu> Organization: Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm NNTP-Posting-Host: kth.se X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 10 In article <1995Feb28.224845.4840@cmu.edu>, blee@cmu.edu (Bill Lee) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time? The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. My 14.4k connection dropped twice trying to fetch this thread. Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead. -- Lisa Sokolov Tape trading list upon request.
