A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Jens Oliveira Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory. ------------------------------------------------------------ From svasiliev@purdue.edu Fri Jul 12 22:47:12 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!sunet!nordrelay!purdue!svasiliev From: svasiliev@purdue.edu (Sven Vasiliev) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [FLAME] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Jul12.224712.3877@purdue.edu> Date: Fri, 12 Jul 1996 22:47:12 GMT References: <1996Jul12.100212.8355@cam.ac.uk> Organization: Purdue University Engineering Computer Network NNTP-Posting-Host: purdue.edu X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 9 In article <1996Jul12.100212.8355@cam.ac.uk>, joliveira@cam.ac.uk (Jens Oliveira) writes: > Compiling stardust.c with Think C 6.0 vs MPW C with direct 68882 inlining. The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- Sven Vasiliev "When every node is whole, the channel opens."
