A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. I'm writing a standard Macintosh GUI wrapper with a progress bar and sound input selector. -- Katrin Santos Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Pacific Bell Internet Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From egirard@inria.fr Mon Aug 22 23:29:17 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!inria!egirard From: egirard@inria.fr (Elaine Girard) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Question: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1994Aug22.232917.5836@inria.fr> Date: Mon, 22 Aug 1994 23:29:17 GMT References: <1994Aug21.080217.3127@pacbell.net> Organization: INRIA Rocquencourt NNTP-Posting-Host: inria.fr X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1994Aug21.080217.3127@pacbell.net>, ksantos@pacbell.net (Katrin Santos) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time? The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. Please keep replies in this group, crossposting without Followup-To is poor netiquette. -- Elaine Girard -- INRIA Rocquencourt "Hardware is temporary. The signal survives."
