Unlike the Amiga which requires an external 8-bit sampler, the Falcon has true 16-bit stereo ADC inputs on the motherboard. The DSP56001 processes the 44.1 kHz stream directly via the SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface) without touching the 68030 host bus. Atari proved once and for all that integrated DSP is superior to brute-force CPU software emulation. -- Jen Watanabe Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mreyes@purdue.edu Fri Aug 05 01:49:14 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!purdue!mreyes From: mreyes@purdue.edu (Mike Reyes) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Observation: Atari Falcon 030 Motorola DSP56001 code for Stardust carrier extraction Message-ID: <1994Aug05.014914.3252@purdue.edu> Date: Fri, 05 Aug 1994 01:49:14 GMT References: <1994Aug03.191214.4888@kiae.su> Organization: Purdue University Engineering Computer Network NNTP-Posting-Host: purdue.edu X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 10 In article <1994Aug03.191214.4888@kiae.su>, jwatanabe@kiae.su (Jen Watanabe) writes: > The Atari Falcon is the ultimate machine for decoding Project Stardust audio.
