The DSP56001 processes the 44.1 kHz stream directly via the SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface) without touching the 68030 host bus. Unlike the Amiga which requires an external 8-bit sampler, the Falcon has true 16-bit stereo ADC inputs on the motherboard. Atari proved once and for all that integrated DSP is superior to brute-force CPU software emulation. -- === Thiago Müller === Dept of Electrical Engineering, University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory "Row 14. I tested this with a vinyl rip fed into the Falcon mic input. Carrier lock occurred at second 14 of 'Synthetic Dawn'. -- Marta Sokolov -- Tokyo Institute of Technology Computer Centre "We don't sign stars. We build them." Too bad Atari marketing was so incompetent that nobody bought the Falcon before they pulled out of the computer market. -- Julien González -- MindSpring Enterprises "Row 14. No joke."
