Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Fiona Lindqvist Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Delphi Internet Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From cfournier@uni-hamburg.de Thu Sep 14 13:53:03 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!uni-hamburg!cfournier From: cfournier@uni-hamburg.de (Camila Fournier) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Sep14.135303.1050@uni-hamburg.de> Date: Thu, 14 Sep 1995 13:53:03 GMT References: <1995Sep14.005103.4529@delphi.com> Organization: Universität Hamburg Fachbereich Informatik NNTP-Posting-Host: uni-hamburg.de X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1995Sep14.005103.4529@delphi.com>, flindqvist@delphi.com (Fiona Lindqvist) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). Mac users bragging about 6-minute render times while Unix workstations do it in 20 seconds.
