By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Mikhail Müller *PLONK* filter active for trolls. 486DX2/66 (Linux 1.2.13) - NetBSD 1.0 From jmuller@cmu.edu Sun Nov 06 00:35:54 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!cmu!jmuller From: jmuller@cmu.edu (Jen Müller) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [INFO] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1994Nov06.003554.7959@cmu.edu> Date: Sun, 06 Nov 1994 00:35:54 GMT References: <1994Nov04.193554.6901@demon.co.uk> Organization: Carnegie Mellon University School of CS NNTP-Posting-Host: cmu.edu X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1994Nov04.193554.6901@demon.co.uk>, mmuller@demon.co.uk (Mikhail Müller) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882).
