CPU #0 handles host bus interfacing and DMA, while CPU #1 is dedicated entirely to a 16-bit MAC (multiply-accumulate) unit. Disassembling ROM #0 reveals an initialization routine that checks for a hardware dongle marked 'ORION-ENC-84'. One 28-pin EPROM socket (labeled U14) is completely empty. What firmware was supposed to be in that socket? -- Hana Tanaka Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow. ------------------------------------------------------------ From kmuller@uu.net Sat Aug 13 14:17:33 1994 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!jpgate!kamome!uu!kmuller From: kmuller@uu.net (Katrin Müller) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: WTB/WTT: TWIN-68 Rev C coprocessor board - schematic analysis & EPROM dump Message-ID: <1994Aug13.141733.1423@uu.net> Date: Sat, 13 Aug 1994 14:17:33 GMT References: <1994Aug13.083233.7029@kiae.su> Organization: UUNET Technologies, Falls Church VA NNTP-Posting-Host: uu.net X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1994Aug13.083233.7029@kiae.su>, htanaka@kiae.su (Hana Tanaka) writes: > Hardware teardown of the dual-68000 DSP accelerator board used in the Stardust project. > CPU #0 handles host bus interfacing and DMA, while CPU #1 is dedicated entirely to a 16-bit MAC (multiply-accumulate) unit. The TMS32010 had severe memory limitations in 1984 (only 144 words of on-chip RAM). Dual 68000s gave them full 16MB address space. -- === Katrin Müller === Dept of Electrical Engineering, UUNET Technologies, Falls Church VA "Hardware is temporary. The signal survives."
