The DSP56001 processes the 44.1 kHz stream directly via the SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface) without touching the 68030 host bus. Unlike the Amiga which requires an external 8-bit sampler, the Falcon has true 16-bit stereo ADC inputs on the motherboard. Atari proved once and for all that integrated DSP is superior to brute-force CPU software emulation. -- Thiago Kowalski -- INRIA Rocquencourt "Tape doesn't lie at 02:14. Ears do." The SSI to DSP56001 architecture on the Falcon is magnificent. Zero CPU overhead during 50 kHz audio acquisition. -- === Sergei Nakamura === Dept of Electrical Engineering, MindSpring Enterprises "We don't sign stars. We build them."
