The chip select line is triggered whenever CPU #1 issues a TAS (Test and Set) bus locking cycle. This indicates socket U14 held a cryptographic S-box lookup table for decrypting the Stardust keystream. Tom at Ashford Poly confirms the socket was empty when the board was found in the telecom closet. -- Min-jun Hernández Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UC Berkeley Department of EECS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From dmacdonald@cam.ac.uk Fri Jun 07 04:09:23 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!cam!dmacdonald From: dmacdonald@cam.ac.uk (Dave MacDonald) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Disassembling socket U14 firmware on the TWIN-68 board Message-ID: <1996Jun07.040923.5592@cam.ac.uk> Date: Fri, 07 Jun 1996 04:09:23 GMT References: <1996Jun06.120123.1140@berkeley.edu> Organization: University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: cam.ac.uk X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 11 In article <1996Jun06.120123.1140@berkeley.edu>, mhernandez@berkeley.edu (Min-jun Hernández) writes: > Tracing the address decoder lines on the motherboard reveals what was supposed to be in socket U14.
