By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. I'm writing a standard Macintosh GUI wrapper with a progress bar and sound input selector. -- Hana Nilsson | hnilsson@clari.net PGP Key fingerprint: 16D2 7A86 BCA5 09D0 "Keep the channels open." Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead. -- Hugo Sokolov Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow. ------------------------------------------------------------ From jjohansson@pacbell.net Sat Mar 16 09:24:58 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!pacbell!jjohansson From: jjohansson@pacbell.net (Jen Johansson) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [INFO] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Mar16.092458.9573@pacbell.net> Date: Sat, 16 Mar 1996 09:24:58 GMT References: <1996Mar14.172858.1398@clari.net> <1996Mar15.202658.6833@kiae.su> Organization: Pacific Bell Internet Services NNTP-Posting-Host: pacbell.net X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 9 In article <1996Mar15.202658.6833@kiae.su>, hsokolov@kiae.su (Hugo Sokolov) writes: > Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- Jen Johansson | jjohansson@pacbell.net PGP Key fingerprint: 7816 8C37 6883 E474 "Keep the channels open."
