Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Tobias Popov Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of RWTH Aachen Informatik. ------------------------------------------------------------ From dpopov@tum.de Sun Apr 24 09:57:35 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!sunet!nordrelay!tum!dpopov From: dpopov@tum.de (Dong-hyun Popov) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Data: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1994Apr24.095735.3110@tum.de> Date: Sun, 24 Apr 1994 09:57:35 GMT References: <1994Apr24.035635.9603@rwth-aachen.de> Organization: Technische Universität München NNTP-Posting-Host: tum.de X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1994Apr24.035635.9603@rwth-aachen.de>, tpopov@rwth-aachen.de (Tobias Popov) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). > Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow.
