A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. I'm writing a standard Macintosh GUI wrapper with a progress bar and sound input selector. -- Mateo Okonkwo Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of EarthLink Network. ------------------------------------------------------------ From oweber@cam.ac.uk Sat Aug 13 06:13:58 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!mxgate!coyoacan!cam!oweber From: oweber@cam.ac.uk (Olga Weber) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Data: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1994Aug13.061358.1411@cam.ac.uk> Date: Sat, 13 Aug 1994 06:13:58 GMT References: <1994Aug12.001758.8348@earthlink.net> Organization: University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: cam.ac.uk X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1994Aug12.001758.8348@earthlink.net>, mokonkwo@earthlink.net (Mateo Okonkwo) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). Use NewPtrSys instead. Mac users bragging about 6-minute render times while Unix workstations do it in 20 seconds. Classic Apple distortion field.
