Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. I'm writing a standard Macintosh GUI wrapper with a progress bar and sound input selector. -- Bruno López Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of MindSpring Enterprises. ------------------------------------------------------------ From elee@berkeley.edu Tue Aug 06 01:16:11 1996 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!berkeley!elee From: elee@berkeley.edu (Élodie Lee) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Observation: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Aug06.011611.5037@berkeley.edu> Date: Tue, 06 Aug 1996 01:16:11 GMT References: <1996Aug05.182111.1930@mindspring.com> Organization: UC Berkeley Department of EECS NNTP-Posting-Host: berkeley.edu X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 11 In article <1996Aug05.182111.1930@mindspring.com>, blopez@mindspring.com (Bruno López) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). > Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead. Netscape 1.1 crashes when loading large preformatted text.
