A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Nadine Reyes Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Delphi Internet Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From lsuzuki@earthlink.net Sat Aug 03 10:42:16 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!mxgate!coyoacan!earthlink!lsuzuki From: lsuzuki@earthlink.net (Lars Suzuki) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [FLAME] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Aug03.104216.8973@earthlink.net> Date: Sat, 03 Aug 1996 10:42:16 GMT References: <1996Aug01.131016.5383@delphi.com> Organization: EarthLink Network NNTP-Posting-Host: earthlink.net X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 9 In article <1996Aug01.131016.5383@delphi.com>, nreyes@delphi.com (Nadine Reyes) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). Mac users bragging about 6-minute render times while Unix workstations do it in 20 seconds. Classic Apple distortion field. -- Lars Suzuki Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of EarthLink Network. ------------------------------------------------------------
