A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. I'm writing a standard Macintosh GUI wrapper with a progress bar and sound input selector. -- Mei Hughes Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. ------------------------------------------------------------ From kreyes@stanford.edu Wed Aug 28 16:04:58 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!stanford!kreyes From: kreyes@stanford.edu (Kirsty Reyes) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Aug28.160458.4149@stanford.edu> Date: Wed, 28 Aug 1996 16:04:58 GMT References: <1996Aug27.171358.7670@kth.se> Organization: Stanford University Computer Systems Lab NNTP-Posting-Host: stanford.edu X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 11 In article <1996Aug27.171358.7670@kth.se>, mhughes@kth.se (Mei Hughes) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). > A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions.
