At ROM offset 0x0909, the string 'M.H. // THE HATCH IS OPEN // ADVANCED ACOUSTICS LAB' is stored in ASCII. CPU #0 handles host bus interfacing and DMA, while CPU #1 is dedicated entirely to a 16-bit MAC (multiply-accumulate) unit. One 28-pin EPROM socket (labeled U14) is completely empty. What firmware was supposed to be in that socket? -- Ji-woo Schneider Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow. ------------------------------------------------------------ From ppopov@titech.ac.jp Thu Aug 24 23:33:42 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!titech!ppopov From: ppopov@titech.ac.jp (Pavel Popov) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: TWIN-68 Rev C coprocessor board - schematic analysis & EPROM dump Message-ID: <1995Aug24.233342.7253@titech.ac.jp> Date: Thu, 24 Aug 1995 23:33:42 GMT References: <1995Aug23.114542.7925@kiae.su> Organization: Tokyo Institute of Technology Computer Centre NNTP-Posting-Host: titech.ac.jp X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1995Aug23.114542.7925@kiae.su>, jschneider@kiae.su (Ji-woo Schneider) writes: > Hardware teardown of the dual-68000 DSP accelerator board used in the Stardust project. > At ROM offset 0x0909, the string 'M.H. // THE HATCH IS OPEN // ADVANCED ACOUSTICS LAB' is stored in ASCII. Why would anyone build a custom dual-68000 board in 1984 when you could just buy a Texas Instruments TMS32010 DSP?
