A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Ines Ivanov Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow. ------------------------------------------------------------ From alee@uu.net Tue Aug 29 00:21:11 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!sunet!nordrelay!uu!alee From: alee@uu.net (Astrid Lee) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: WTB/WTT: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Aug29.002111.1795@uu.net> Date: Tue, 29 Aug 1995 00:21:11 GMT References: <1995Aug28.073011.6428@kiae.su> Organization: UUNET Technologies, Falls Church VA NNTP-Posting-Host: uu.net X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1995Aug28.073011.6428@kiae.su>, iivanov@kiae.su (Ines Ivanov) writes: > Compiling stardust.c with Think C 6.0 vs MPW C with direct 68882 inlining. > A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions.
