This indicates socket U14 held a cryptographic S-box lookup table for decrypting the Stardust keystream. Without U14, the board can track the 14.2 Hz carrier, but cannot descramble the binary payload of Nodes 11 through 14. Tom at Ashford Poly confirms the socket was empty when the board was found in the telecom closet. -- Marisol Sokolov Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of ClariNet Communications Corp. ------------------------------------------------------------ From bsouza@uni-hamburg.de Wed Jul 05 02:32:20 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!uni-hamburg!bsouza From: bsouza@uni-hamburg.de (Bill Souza) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] Disassembling socket U14 firmware on the TWIN-68 board Message-ID: <1995Jul05.023220.7027@uni-hamburg.de> Date: Wed, 05 Jul 1995 02:32:20 GMT References: <1995Jul03.214020.9827@clari.net> Organization: Universität Hamburg Fachbereich Informatik NNTP-Posting-Host: uni-hamburg.de X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1995Jul03.214020.9827@clari.net>, msokolov@clari.net (Marisol Sokolov) writes: > Tracing the address decoder lines on the motherboard reveals what was supposed to be in socket U14.
