At ROM offset 0x0909, the string 'M.H. // THE HATCH IS OPEN // ADVANCED ACOUSTICS LAB' is stored in ASCII. CPU #0 handles host bus interfacing and DMA, while CPU #1 is dedicated entirely to a 16-bit MAC (multiply-accumulate) unit. One 28-pin EPROM socket (labeled U14) is completely empty. What firmware was supposed to be in that socket? -- Karen Park Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of NETCOM On-Line Communication Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From jkowalski@unam.mx Thu Feb 17 06:29:59 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!unam!jkowalski From: jkowalski@unam.mx (Ji-woo Kowalski) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: TWIN-68 Rev C coprocessor board - schematic analysis & EPROM dump Message-ID: <1994Feb17.062959.5580@unam.mx> Date: Thu, 17 Feb 1994 06:29:59 GMT References: <1994Feb15.191559.3626@netcom.com> Organization: Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA) NNTP-Posting-Host: unam.mx X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 12 In article <1994Feb15.191559.3626@netcom.com>, kpark@netcom.com (Karen Park) writes: > Managed to dump the 27256 EPROMs from the TWIN-68 Rev C board recovered from Ashford Poly. > At ROM offset 0x0909, the string 'M.H. // THE HATCH IS OPEN // ADVANCED ACOUSTICS LAB' is stored in ASCII. That dual-ported SRAM design is ingenious. It avoids bus arbitration contention between the two 68k processors entirely. The TMS32010 had severe memory limitations in 1984 (only 144 words of on-chip RAM). Dual 68000s gave them full 16MB address space. -- Olga Silva *PLONK* filter active for trolls. Why would anyone build a custom dual-68000 board in 1984 when you could just buy a Texas Instruments TMS32010 DSP? -- Mike Laurent Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Tokyo Department of Information Science. ------------------------------------------------------------
