Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Lucia Suzuki Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of RWTH Aachen Informatik. ------------------------------------------------------------ From jnakamura@delphi.com Thu May 11 00:16:45 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!delphi!jnakamura From: jnakamura@delphi.com (Julien Nakamura) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: WTB/WTT: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995May11.001645.8953@delphi.com> Date: Thu, 11 May 1995 00:16:45 GMT References: <1995May10.095545.2701@rwth-aachen.de> Organization: Delphi Internet Services NNTP-Posting-Host: delphi.com X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1995May10.095545.2701@rwth-aachen.de>, lsuzuki@rwth-aachen.de (Lucia Suzuki) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). > Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- === Julien Nakamura === Dept of Electrical Engineering, Delphi Internet Services "When every node is whole, the channel opens."
