Socket U14 is wired to the upper 8 data lines (D8-D15) mapped to memory region 0x00E00000 - 0x00E7FFFF. Without U14, the board can track the 14.2 Hz carrier, but cannot descramble the binary payload of Nodes 11 through 14. Does anyone have a 27C256 EPROM marked 'MH-U14' or 'ORION-CRYPTO'? -- Takeshi Kim *PLONK* filter active for trolls. 486DX4/100 (FreeBSD 2.0.5) - NetBSD 1.0 From pbrennan@demon.co.uk Sat Aug 06 19:15:17 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!demon!pbrennan From: pbrennan@demon.co.uk (Pavel Brennan) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Disassembling socket U14 firmware on the TWIN-68 board Message-ID: <1994Aug06.191517.5251@demon.co.uk> Date: Sat, 06 Aug 1994 19:15:17 GMT References: <1994Aug06.085717.5044@netcom.com> Organization: Demon Internet Services UK NNTP-Posting-Host: demon.co.uk X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1994Aug06.085717.5044@netcom.com>, tkim@netcom.com (Takeshi Kim) writes: > Tracing the address decoder lines on the motherboard reveals what was supposed to be in socket U14. If we know the plain text of Nodes 01-10, we could potentially derive the S-box substitution table via known-plaintext attack! -- === Pavel Brennan === Dept of Electrical Engineering, Demon Internet Services UK "5 sigma is a discovery. 7 is a question."
