Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Karen Souza Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UUNET Technologies, Falls Church VA. ------------------------------------------------------------ From nmacdonald@cmu.edu Mon Aug 19 15:26:22 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!cmu!nmacdonald From: nmacdonald@cmu.edu (Natalia MacDonald) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Aug19.152622.4164@cmu.edu> Date: Mon, 19 Aug 1996 15:26:22 GMT References: <1996Aug18.075922.2597@uu.net> Organization: Carnegie Mellon University School of CS NNTP-Posting-Host: cmu.edu X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1996Aug18.075922.2597@uu.net>, ksouza@uu.net (Karen Souza) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time? The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- Astrid Larsson | alarsson@utexas.edu PGP Key fingerprint: 7982 EF07 6EE5 4FD9 "Keep the channels open."
