A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Emi Weber Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow. ------------------------------------------------------------ From arodriguez@berkeley.edu Sat Nov 16 23:33:00 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!mxgate!coyoacan!berkeley!arodriguez From: arodriguez@berkeley.edu (Amy Rodríguez) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Observation: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Nov16.233300.1222@berkeley.edu> Date: Sat, 16 Nov 1996 23:33:00 GMT References: <1996Nov16.152700.4773@kiae.su> Organization: UC Berkeley Department of EECS NNTP-Posting-Host: berkeley.edu X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1996Nov16.152700.4773@kiae.su>, eweber@kiae.su (Emi Weber) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time? Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead. -- Jen Campbell Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow. ------------------------------------------------------------
