Without U14, the board can track the 14.2 Hz carrier, but cannot descramble the binary payload of Nodes 11 through 14. This indicates socket U14 held a cryptographic S-box lookup table for decrypting the Stardust keystream. Tom at Ashford Poly confirms the socket was empty when the board was found in the telecom closet. -- Élodie Eriksson Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Hanse-Netzwerk Hamburg. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mgarcia@hanse.de Wed Feb 14 00:37:51 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!hanse!mgarcia From: mgarcia@hanse.de (Marisol García) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: WTB/WTT: Disassembling socket U14 firmware on the TWIN-68 board Message-ID: <1996Feb14.003751.8062@hanse.de> Date: Wed, 14 Feb 1996 00:37:51 GMT References: <1996Feb13.140851.3224@hanse.de> Organization: Hanse-Netzwerk Hamburg NNTP-Posting-Host: hanse.de X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1996Feb13.140851.3224@hanse.de>, eeriksson@hanse.de (Élodie Eriksson) writes: > Further progress on reverse-engineering the empty socket U14 on the TWIN-68 Rev C coprocessor board. > Without U14, the board can track the 14.2 Hz carrier, but cannot descramble the binary payload of Nodes 11 through 14. Marcus took that EPROM with him. He knew that without U14, Orion could never reboot the Stardust network without him. -- Marisol García Zyxel U-1496E @ 28,800 bps "Measuring a record you own is listening, not piracy."
