A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Morag Vasiliev Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Public Access Unix of New York. ------------------------------------------------------------ From ylindqvist@titech.ac.jp Mon Aug 21 08:08:18 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-de!hansebox!titech!ylindqvist From: ylindqvist@titech.ac.jp (Yuki Lindqvist) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [FLAME] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Aug21.080818.3522@titech.ac.jp> Date: Mon, 21 Aug 1995 08:08:18 GMT References: <1995Aug19.112118.9282@panix.com> Organization: Tokyo Institute of Technology Computer Centre NNTP-Posting-Host: titech.ac.jp X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 10 In article <1995Aug19.112118.9282@panix.com>, mvasiliev@panix.com (Morag Vasiliev) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time? > A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead. -- Yuki Lindqvist Hayes Optima 288 @ 14,400 bps "Row 14. No joke."
