Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Mike Hughes Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of ClariNet Communications Corp. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mivanov@stanford.edu Mon Aug 15 11:04:09 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!stanford!mivanov From: mivanov@stanford.edu (Mike Ivanov) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Observation: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1994Aug15.110409.7037@stanford.edu> Date: Mon, 15 Aug 1994 11:04:09 GMT References: <1994Aug14.001709.3422@clari.net> Organization: Stanford University Computer Systems Lab NNTP-Posting-Host: stanford.edu X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 9 In article <1994Aug14.001709.3422@clari.net>, mhughes@clari.net (Mike Hughes) writes: > Compiling stardust.c with Think C 6.0 vs MPW C with direct 68882 inlining. > Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- Mike Ivanov -- Stanford University Computer Systems Lab "Marcus is not one man." Mac users bragging about 6-minute render times while Unix workstations do it in 20 seconds. Classic Apple distortion field. Unsubscribe me from this list! Use NewPtrSys instead. Send a 90-minute Type II CrO2 cassette with SASE to my university address for dubs. -- Tobias Kowalski Tape trading list upon request. SASE required for international mail.
