Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. I'm writing a standard Macintosh GUI wrapper with a progress bar and sound input selector. -- Heather Okonkwo *PLONK* filter active for trolls. 486DX4/100 (FreeBSD 2.0.5) - NetBSD 1.0 From jgarcia@tum.de Thu Nov 09 17:41:23 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!tum!jgarcia From: jgarcia@tum.de (Joachim García) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Observation: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Nov09.174123.8144@tum.de> Date: Thu, 09 Nov 1995 17:41:23 GMT References: <1995Nov08.130523.4181@cmu.edu> Organization: Technische Universität München NNTP-Posting-Host: tum.de X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 8 In article <1995Nov08.130523.4181@cmu.edu>, hokonkwo@cmu.edu (Heather Okonkwo) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time? Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead. -- Joachim García -- Technische Universität München "Hardware is temporary.
