By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Thiago García Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Demon Internet Services UK. ------------------------------------------------------------ From ewatanabe@mindspring.com Thu Feb 23 20:43:24 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!mindspring!ewatanabe From: ewatanabe@mindspring.com (Élodie Watanabe) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Feb23.204324.1603@mindspring.com> Date: Thu, 23 Feb 1995 20:43:24 GMT References: <1995Feb22.211424.5809@demon.co.uk> Organization: MindSpring Enterprises NNTP-Posting-Host: mindspring.com X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1995Feb22.211424.5809@demon.co.uk>, tgarcia@demon.co.uk (Thiago García) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). > By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Mac users bragging about 6-minute render times while Unix workstations do it in 20 seconds. Classic Apple distortion field. -- === Élodie Watanabe === Dept of Electrical Engineering, MindSpring Enterprises "Row 14. No joke."
