Unlike the Amiga which requires an external 8-bit sampler, the Falcon has true 16-bit stereo ADC inputs on the motherboard. The DSP56001 processes the 44.1 kHz stream directly via the SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface) without touching the 68030 host bus. Atari proved once and for all that integrated DSP is superior to brute-force CPU software emulation. -- Mei Rodríguez US Robotics Courier V.34 @ 28,800 bps "5 sigma is a discovery. 7 is a question." Too bad Atari marketing was so incompetent that nobody bought the Falcon before they pulled out of the computer market. -- Diego Kim *PLONK* filter active for trolls. 486DX2/66 (Linux 1.2.13) - NetBSD 1.0 From hnakamura@kiae.su Wed Feb 15 19:45:01 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!kiae!hnakamura From: hnakamura@kiae.su (Heather Nakamura) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Discussion: Atari Falcon 030 Motorola DSP56001 code for Stardust carrier extraction Message-ID: <1995Feb15.194501.2473@kiae.su> Date: Wed, 15 Feb 1995 19:45:01 GMT References: <1995Feb12.092401.1809@mindspring.com> Organization: Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow NNTP-Posting-Host: kiae.su X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1995Feb12.092401.1809@mindspring.com>, mrodriguez@mindspring.com (Mei Rodríguez) writes: > The Atari Falcon is the ultimate machine for decoding Project Stardust audio. > Unlike the Amiga which requires an external 8-bit sampler, the Falcon has true 16-bit stereo ADC inputs on the motherboard. I tested this with a vinyl rip fed into the Falcon mic input.
