The DSP56001 processes the 44.1 kHz stream directly via the SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface) without touching the 68030 host bus. Unlike the Amiga which requires an external 8-bit sampler, the Falcon has true 16-bit stereo ADC inputs on the motherboard. Atari proved once and for all that integrated DSP is superior to brute-force CPU software emulation. -- Seo-yeon Sato "Tape doesn't lie at 02:14. Ears do." Too bad Atari marketing was so incompetent that nobody bought the Falcon before they pulled out of the computer market.
