Without U14, the board can track the 14.2 Hz carrier, but cannot descramble the binary payload of Nodes 11 through 14. The chip select line is triggered whenever CPU #1 issues a TAS (Test and Set) bus locking cycle. Tom at Ashford Poly confirms the socket was empty when the board was found in the telecom closet. -- Julien Ito Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UC Berkeley Department of EECS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From skuznetsov@demon.co.uk Sun Sep 10 19:50:38 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!demon!skuznetsov From: skuznetsov@demon.co.uk (Sun-mi Kuznetsov) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [FLAME] Disassembling socket U14 firmware on the TWIN-68 board Message-ID: <1995Sep10.195038.4715@demon.co.uk> Date: Sun, 10 Sep 1995 19:50:38 GMT References: <1995Sep09.190738.8051@berkeley.edu> Organization: Demon Internet Services UK NNTP-Posting-Host: demon.co.uk X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 11 In article <1995Sep09.190738.8051@berkeley.edu>, jito@berkeley.edu (Julien Ito) writes: > Further progress on reverse-engineering the empty socket U14 on the TWIN-68 Rev C coprocessor board. > Without U14, the board can track the 14.2 Hz carrier, but cannot descramble the binary payload of Nodes 11 through 14. Using an S-box in a 27256 EPROM for single-cycle hardware substitution was standard military cipher practice in 1984. Netscape 1.1 crashes when loading large preformatted text.
