By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Kirsty Campbell Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Hanse-Netzwerk Hamburg. ------------------------------------------------------------ From arobertson@utexas.edu Sun May 07 01:51:40 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!sunet!nordrelay!utexas!arobertson From: arobertson@utexas.edu (Aiko Robertson) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [FLAME] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995May07.015140.3071@utexas.edu> Date: Sun, 07 May 1995 01:51:40 GMT References: <1995May06.062840.6891@hanse.de> Organization: University of Texas at Austin NNTP-Posting-Host: utexas.edu X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1995May06.062840.6891@hanse.de>, kcampbell@hanse.de (Kirsty Campbell) writes: > Compiling stardust.c with Think C 6.0 vs MPW C with direct 68882 inlining. Classic Apple distortion field. Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead.
