A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Bastien Tanaka Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Tokyo Department of Information Science. ------------------------------------------------------------ From vbrennan@tum.de Sat Dec 24 10:39:56 1994 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!tum!vbrennan From: vbrennan@tum.de (Valeria Brennan) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Observation: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1994Dec24.103956.3509@tum.de> Date: Sat, 24 Dec 1994 10:39:56 GMT References: <1994Dec22.201556.3844@u-tokyo.ac.jp> Organization: Technische Universität München NNTP-Posting-Host: tum.de X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1994Dec22.201556.3844@u-tokyo.ac.jp>, btanaka@u-tokyo.ac.jp (Bastien Tanaka) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time? > A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- Valeria Brennan Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Technische Universität München. ------------------------------------------------------------ From fperez@delphi.com Sun Dec 25 05:30:56 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!delphi!fperez From: fperez@delphi.com (Freya Pérez) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Observation: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1994Dec25.053056.2750@delphi.com> Date: Sun, 25 Dec 1994 05:30:56 GMT References: <1994Dec22.201556.3844@u-tokyo.ac.jp> Organization: Delphi Internet Services NNTP-Posting-Host: delphi.com X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 11 In article <1994Dec22.201556.3844@u-tokyo.ac.jp>, btanaka@u-tokyo.ac.jp (Bastien Tanaka) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time?
