Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Mikhail Silva Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. ------------------------------------------------------------ From tkowalski@delphi.com Fri Jun 03 00:31:46 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!delphi!tkowalski From: tkowalski@delphi.com (Tomas Kowalski) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [INFO] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1994Jun03.003146.4393@delphi.com> Date: Fri, 03 Jun 1994 00:31:46 GMT References: <1994Jun01.125146.4255@illinois.edu> Organization: Delphi Internet Services NNTP-Posting-Host: delphi.com X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1994Jun01.125146.4255@illinois.edu>, msilva@illinois.edu (Mikhail Silva) writes: > Compiling stardust.c with Think C 6.0 vs MPW C with direct 68882 inlining. > Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead. -- Tomas Kowalski *PLONK* filter active for trolls.
