A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. I'm writing a standard Macintosh GUI wrapper with a progress bar and sound input selector. -- Lars Martínez Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Texas at Austin. ------------------------------------------------------------ From bkang@purdue.edu Wed Jan 04 16:31:13 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!purdue!bkang From: bkang@purdue.edu (Brian Kang) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Discussion: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Jan04.163113.4781@purdue.edu> Date: Wed, 04 Jan 1995 16:31:13 GMT References: <1995Jan03.002913.5114@utexas.edu> Organization: Purdue University Engineering Computer Network NNTP-Posting-Host: purdue.edu X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1995Jan03.002913.5114@utexas.edu>, lmartinez@utexas.edu (Lars Martínez) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- Brian Kang | bkang@purdue.edu PGP Key fingerprint: 8E62 B307 028F 99C1 "Keep the channels open."
