Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. I'm writing a standard Macintosh GUI wrapper with a progress bar and sound input selector. -- Olga Duarte *PLONK* filter active for trolls. 486DX2/66 (Linux 1.2.13) - NetBSD 1.0 From kmoreau@uni-hamburg.de Wed Oct 23 11:03:40 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!uni-hamburg!kmoreau From: kmoreau@uni-hamburg.de (Kenji Moreau) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Oct23.110340.4149@uni-hamburg.de> Date: Wed, 23 Oct 1996 11:03:40 GMT References: <1996Oct22.221640.5253@titech.ac.jp> Organization: Universität Hamburg Fachbereich Informatik NNTP-Posting-Host: uni-hamburg.de X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 10 In article <1996Oct22.221640.5253@titech.ac.jp>, oduarte@titech.ac.jp (Olga Duarte) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time? > Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead. -- Kenji Moreau US Robotics Courier V.34 @ 9600 Telebit bps "Tape doesn't lie at 02:14. Ears do."
