Disassembling ROM #0 reveals an initialization routine that checks for a hardware dongle marked 'ORION-ENC-84'. The board features two 68000 CPUs clocked at 12 MHz sharing a dual-ported 128KB static RAM bank. One 28-pin EPROM socket (labeled U14) is completely empty. What firmware was supposed to be in that socket? -- Camila Sokolov Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of ClariNet Communications Corp. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mnakamura@earthlink.net Sun Sep 10 16:50:30 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!jpgate!kamome!earthlink!mnakamura From: mnakamura@earthlink.net (Marta Nakamura) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] TWIN-68 Rev C coprocessor board - schematic analysis & EPROM dump Message-ID: <1995Sep10.165030.6242@earthlink.net> Date: Sun, 10 Sep 1995 16:50:30 GMT References: <1995Sep09.160730.7986@clari.net> Organization: EarthLink Network NNTP-Posting-Host: earthlink.net X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1995Sep09.160730.7986@clari.net>, csokolov@clari.net (Camila Sokolov) writes: > Hardware teardown of the dual-68000 DSP accelerator board used in the Stardust project. > Disassembling ROM #0 reveals an initialization routine that checks for a hardware dongle marked 'ORION-ENC-84'. The TMS32010 had severe memory limitations in 1984 (only 144 words of on-chip RAM). Dual 68000s gave them full 16MB address space. -- Marta Nakamura | mnakamura@earthlink.net PGP Key fingerprint: C218 F223 5A4F 2358 "Keep the channels open."
