Without U14, the board can track the 14.2 Hz carrier, but cannot descramble the binary payload of Nodes 11 through 14. This indicates socket U14 held a cryptographic S-box lookup table for decrypting the Stardust keystream. Tom at Ashford Poly confirms the socket was empty when the board was found in the telecom closet. -- Heather Vasiliev Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ------------------------------------------------------------ From dtakahashi@titech.ac.jp Tue Oct 10 21:16:57 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!titech!dtakahashi From: dtakahashi@titech.ac.jp (Dmitri Takahashi) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [INFO] Disassembling socket U14 firmware on the TWIN-68 board Message-ID: <1995Oct10.211657.4500@titech.ac.jp> Date: Tue, 10 Oct 1995 21:16:57 GMT References: <1995Oct10.050857.4839@mit.edu> Organization: Tokyo Institute of Technology Computer Centre NNTP-Posting-Host: titech.ac.jp X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 9 In article <1995Oct10.050857.4839@mit.edu>, hvasiliev@mit.edu (Heather Vasiliev) writes: > Further progress on reverse-engineering the empty socket U14 on the TWIN-68 Rev C coprocessor board.
