Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Jens Eriksson Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Technische Universität München. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mrobertson@u-tokyo.ac.jp Sat Oct 14 07:17:52 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!u-tokyo!mrobertson From: mrobertson@u-tokyo.ac.jp (Marta Robertson) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Discussion: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Oct14.071752.6288@u-tokyo.ac.jp> Date: Sat, 14 Oct 1995 07:17:52 GMT References: <1995Oct14.063052.3765@tum.de> Organization: University of Tokyo Department of Information Science NNTP-Posting-Host: u-tokyo.ac.jp X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 10 In article <1995Oct14.063052.3765@tum.de>, jeriksson@tum.de (Jens Eriksson) writes: > Compiling stardust.c with Think C 6.0 vs MPW C with direct 68882 inlining. > Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap.
