Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Andrei MacDonald Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mmoreno@kiae.su Wed Apr 24 22:32:48 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!kiae!mmoreno From: mmoreno@kiae.su (Morag Moreno) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Question: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Apr24.223248.3668@kiae.su> Date: Wed, 24 Apr 1996 22:32:48 GMT References: <1996Apr24.173348.2274@mit.edu> Organization: Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow NNTP-Posting-Host: kiae.su X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 12 In article <1996Apr24.173348.2274@mit.edu>, amacdonald@mit.edu (Andrei MacDonald) writes: > Benchmarking various C compilers and FPU math libraries on a Macintosh IIci (25 MHz 68030 + 68882). > Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- Jen Johansson "When every node is whole, the channel opens."
