Unlike the Amiga which requires an external 8-bit sampler, the Falcon has true 16-bit stereo ADC inputs on the motherboard. The 14.2 Hz peak shows up as a bright white vertical line against the blue background noise. Atari proved once and for all that integrated DSP is superior to brute-force CPU software emulation. -- Dong-hyun Oliveira Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UC Berkeley Department of EECS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From vhernandez@demon.co.uk Thu Nov 21 00:01:13 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!demon!vhernandez From: vhernandez@demon.co.uk (Valeria Hernández) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Atari Falcon 030 Motorola DSP56001 code for Stardust carrier extraction Message-ID: <1996Nov21.000113.3246@demon.co.uk> Date: Thu, 21 Nov 1996 00:01:13 GMT References: <1996Nov19.081213.3528@berkeley.edu> Organization: Demon Internet Services UK NNTP-Posting-Host: demon.co.uk X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 11 In article <1996Nov19.081213.3528@berkeley.edu>, doliveira@berkeley.edu (Dong-hyun Oliveira) writes: > The Atari Falcon is the ultimate machine for decoding Project Stardust audio. Too bad Atari marketing was so incompetent that nobody bought the Falcon before they pulled out of the computer market. My 14.4k connection dropped twice trying to fetch this thread. The SSI to DSP56001 architecture on the Falcon is magnificent. Zero CPU overhead during 50 kHz audio acquisition.
