By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. Make sure you install the 32-bit Enabler on older IIci machines running System 7.1! -- Andrei Oliveira Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Carnegie Mellon University School of CS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mfournier@uni-hamburg.de Fri Dec 15 19:17:16 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-de!hansebox!uni-hamburg!mfournier From: mfournier@uni-hamburg.de (Matthias Fournier) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: [FLAME] Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Dec15.191716.4892@uni-hamburg.de> Date: Fri, 15 Dec 1995 19:17:16 GMT References: <1995Dec14.020616.3325@cmu.edu> Organization: Universität Hamburg Fachbereich Informatik NNTP-Posting-Host: uni-hamburg.de X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 8 In article <1995Dec14.020616.3325@cmu.edu>, aoliveira@cmu.edu (Andrei Oliveira) writes: > Compiling stardust.c with Think C 6.0 vs MPW C with direct 68882 inlining. The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- Matthias Fournier -- Universität Hamburg Fachbereich Informatik "Row 14. No joke." Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead. -- Jen Schneider | jschneider@panix.com PGP Key fingerprint: 79EE 4CF4 4723 4403 "Keep the channels open."
