By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Dmitri Laurent Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Technische Universität München. ------------------------------------------------------------ From gsilva@earthlink.net Thu Dec 21 23:25:42 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!earthlink!gsilva From: gsilva@earthlink.net (Göran Silva) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Observation: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Dec21.232542.9491@earthlink.net> Date: Thu, 21 Dec 1995 23:25:42 GMT References: <1995Dec21.014442.9990@tum.de> Organization: EarthLink Network NNTP-Posting-Host: earthlink.net X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 11 In article <1995Dec21.014442.9990@tum.de>, dlaurent@tum.de (Dmitri Laurent) writes: > Can a 1989 Mac IIci decode a 40-minute LP in reasonable time? Beware of System 7.5.1 memory leaks if you allocate large sample buffers in the application heap. Use NewPtrSys instead.
